Written Comments
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently published a Notice for Public Comments on Potential Viral Hepatitis Quality Measures in Medicaid and invites stakeholders to provide written public comments on potential viral hepatitis quality measures for implementation at the state and territory level. Specifically, HHS is seeking comments on the clinical significance, usability, feasibility, and likely uptake of hepatitis C screening and hepatitis C treatment initiation quality measures, as well as recommendations with adequate justifications on other feasible viral hepatitis measures to consider.
The public comment period begins on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 9 a.m. EST and ends on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 5 p.m. EST. Please submit all written comments electronically to OIDPViralHepatitis@hhs.gov.
Quality measures are tools used to measure different aspects of healthcare quality, such as processes, outcomes, patient experiences, and structures. OIDP is leading a national effort to find a useful and practical quality measure for viral hepatitis. This measure aims to enhance state quality improvement programs, potentially including a proposal for the Medicaid Adult Core Set.
Partner Meetings
OIDP hosted a virtual HHS Viral Hepatitis Quality Measures Technical Consultation Meeting on March 7, 2024, from 12:00 – 4:00 PM EST. The meeting convened state leaders and others working with viral hepatitis quality measures to discuss the feasibility of testing and implementing a measure at the state level and provided an opportunity to hear progress from state officials who have implemented or plan to implement viral hepatitis quality measures on screening and treatment.
