Advancing Viral Hepatitis Elimination: Progress, Challenges, and Future Strategies

Time and Location: July 29, 2024

A webinar held on July 29, 2024, provided federal updates from the 2023 Progress Report on the Viral Hepatitis National Strategic Plan 2021-2025. The session offered an opportunity for participants to discuss challenges and strategies to advance the nation’s viral hepatitis elimination goals.

Federal Implementation of Updated Viral Hepatitis Screening and Vaccination Recommendations

Time and Location: May 30, 2023

On March 10th, 2023, CDC released a MMWR to update the recommendations for screening and testing for hepatitis B virus for all adults aged 18 years and older. View the webinar held by the Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy (OIDP) on May 30, 2023, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. EST on the federal implementation of these new recommendations. Federal partners shared lessons learned from the implementation of the updated hepatitis C screening recommendations in 2020. The session also provided an update on the implementation of universal hepatitis B vaccination guidelines and how hepatitis B screening and vaccination recommendations will be integrated. Speakers included representatives from BOP, CDC, HRSA, IHS, SAMHSA, and VA.

Federal Implementation of the Updated Adult Hepatitis B Vaccination Recommendations

Time and Location: May 23, 2022

This year Hepatitis Awareness Month coincided with the release of the Universal Adult Hepatitis B Vaccination recommendations. View the webinar held on May 23, 2022 from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. to learn how agencies plan to implement the new recommendations to increase vaccination uptake in the United States. Speakers included representatives from OIDP, CDC, CMS, HRSA, IHS, SAMHSA, and VA.

Hidden Casualties: National Partners' Response to the Opioid Epidemic & Infectious Diseases – Part 2

The HHS Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy hosted the second of the two webinars, Hidden Casualties: National Partners' Response to the Opioid Epidemic & Infectious Diseases that discussed the impact of the opioid crisis on infectious diseases and shared examples of what national and local partners are doing to respond. Participating organizations included the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA), National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD), National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), and National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable (NVHR).

Hidden Casualties: National Partners' Response to the Opioid Epidemic & Infectious Diseases – Part 1

The Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases Policy hosted two webinars that follow the themes introduced last October during the first Hidden Casualties event. The continuation of this series, Hidden Casualties: National Partners' Response to the Opioid Epidemic & Infectious Diseases webinars discussed the impact of the opioid crisis on infectious diseases and shared examples of what national and local partners are doing to respond. Participating organizations included the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), and National Governors Association (NGA).

HIV/HCV Co-infection: An AETC National Curriculum

The goal of this curriculum is to provide an evidence-based online curriculum for healthcare providers and trainers of healthcare providers to increase their knowledge on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) co-infection among people of color in the United States and its territories Topics covered include prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment recommendations as well as barriers and other co-factors that may impede optimal treatment outcomes for co-infected people of color.
