OHRP Recruiting for Director of the Division of Compliance Oversight

February 26, 2019

The Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), which is within the Department of Health and Human Services, is recruiting for the position of Director of its Division of Compliance Oversight. That Division is one of the three operating divisions of OHRP. The candidate who fills this position will be uniquely positioned to have a major influence on issues relating to protecting human subjects, both within the United States, and throughout the world.

Because of the significance of this position, we are seeking a person who has a deep background in the issues relating to the protection of research subjects, particularly under the U.S. regulations (the Common Rule). The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership in discussing and working with these issues both within their institutions, and in national settings.  Qualified candidates do not need to have specific experience with compliance matters; their understanding of the field generally is more important than specific experience with compliance.

Qualifications: While there is no degree requirement, an ideal candidate would likely have a background that includes some form of graduate educational training. That training could be in a variety of fields, including legal training (such as possessing a J.D., given that the position involves working with and interpreting regulations), an advanced scientific degree (e.g., Ph.D. or MD), or training in policy.  Successful candidates will have proven leadership and management skills, evidence of effective teamwork, and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Salary/benefits: This is a federal full-time equivalent position, and a comprehensive benefits package is available. Salary starts at $134k and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

How to apply:  The position announcement can be found on USA Jobs.gov, the Federal Government’s official employment site.  Applications can be submitted to the site starting March 4.
