Are breast pumps covered by the Affordable Care Act?

All plans in the Health Insurance Marketplace® must provide pregnancy care before and after childbirth. This includes coverage for nursing parents to buy or rent breast pumps, depending on your plan’s rules and provider recommendations. There are some guidelines you’ll need to follow with your plan, and you may have to get pre-authorization. Talk with your doctor about your options.

If you have a baby and don’t have health coverage, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. You may be able to enroll in a plan, even if you don’t qualify for Medicaid or CHIP through your state agency.
