    HB 1621 - Requiring the Presidential Fitness Test

    Signed on January 23, 2025 by Governor Kelly Armstrong

    Requires students in elementary, middle, and high schools to participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness Test as part of required physical education courses. The bill amends state education law to include the test within K-12 physical education instruction and requires high school students to participate while completing the existing requirement of one-half unit of physical education each year. It authorizes the state superintendent of public instruction to establish testing criteria and grant exceptions consistent with federal guidance. The requirement would take effect on August 1, 2027.
