President Donald J. Trump Nominates Individuals to Key Posts at the Department of Health and Human Services

WASHINGTON – President Donald J. Trump nominated the following individuals to key positions in his Administration at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Gustav Chiarello, Nominee for Assistant Secretary for Financial Resources

Gustav Chiarello is currently Senior Special Counsel to the House Committee on the Judiciary, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan. He serves on the Subcommittee on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust, chaired by Rep. Scott Fitzgerald. Previously, Mr. Chiarello served as an attorney at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). He also served as an Attorney Advisor to Acting FTC Chairman Maureen K. Ohlhausen during the first Trump Administration. Mr. Chiarello received his undergraduate degree in Economics and Human Resource Management from the Catholic University of America. He also holds a Master’s in Public Policy from Georgetown University and a law degree from George Mason University.

Gary Andres, Nominee for Assistant Secretary for Legislation

Gary Andres is currently the Republican Staff Director of the House Budget Committee. Mr. Andres served as the Republican Staff Director for the House Ways and Means Committee from 2018 to 2022 and for the House Energy and Commerce Committee from 2011 to 2017. He also worked in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs for Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. Previously, he worked at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization and Dutko Worldwide. Mr. Andres received his undergraduate degree in Social Science from Wheaton College. He also holds Master’s in Political Science and a Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis from the University of Illinois-Chicago.

Michael Stuart, Nominee for General Counsel

Michael Stuart currently serves as a West Virginia State Senator. Elected in 2022, he represents the people of Logan, Lincoln, Boone, and Kanawha counties. Previously, Senator Stuart served as a United States District Attorney, as the Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party, and as a corporate attorney. Mr. Stuart’s career spans business, government, and law, with leadership roles in economic development, corporate governance, and public policy. Senator Stuart received his law degree from Boston University School of Law.
