Assessment, Counseling, and Referrals

Many of your employees can face challenges — like juggling the demands of work and family — that can adversely affect their overall well-being. Becoming overwhelmed or stressed by relationships, school, health, finances, work, family, or other issues is not uncommon. This can impact their quality of life, health, and work.

To support federal employees with any challenges they might face, Federal Occupational Health (FOH), a component of the Program Support Center (PSC), provides robust counseling through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

How It Works

Our EAP offers initial assessments, short-term counseling, referral, and follow-up services for:

  • Family/relationship issues
  • Workplace concerns
  • Alcohol and drug problems
  • Stress-related challenges
  • Personal and emotional difficulties
  • Grief, anxiety, and depression

Employees make confidential appointments with counselors who assess their needs and work with them to develop appropriate action plans. Our experienced staff asks a few vital questions and then arranges an appointment that is convenient for the employee or family member. Urgent or emergency concerns are addressed on a more immediate basis as required.

If an employee requires long-term treatment, the counselor will make a referral to a community resource and follow the progress where appropriate.

Convenient and Confidential Access

Available any time, day or night, employees and their family members can contact the program and immediately speak with a professional. Our team is available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and self-service tools and information can also be found online on our interactive website.

Services are confidential, except in the rare areas where disclosure is required by law, generally when there is a safety concern. Services are voluntary and are offered as a free agency benefit.

How to Attain EAP Services

Participating in our EAP is easy. Because we are one government organization serving another, we can provide services through an interagency agreement, eliminating the need for formal contracting processes. This way, federal organizations save money in contract management.

FOH's EAP helps your employees manage life's challenges so they can be healthier, happier, and more productive in all aspects of their lives.
