Nokia Maps HERE Platform for Enterprise

The work in HHS impacts Americans all over the country, and now you can show people just where that impact is taking place by displaying your location-based information on a customized interactive map. Displaying information on maps can show off the great work your office is doing, demonstrate a relationship between two sources of information, or encourage those in other locations to get involved in your program. You can create basic maps that plot simple location points, or you can create more advanced features including regions, layers, advanced custom display options, and more.

If you have data that can be plotted on a map, and doing so can bring value to your site visitors, you should explore how you can display your information using the HERE Platform for Enterprise. The HERE Platform enables a fast and easy way to integrate advanced location-based services functionality with your data on the map.

Q: What is HERE Platform for Enterprise and who is using HERE Maps?

HERE Platform for Enterprise brings together Nokia's mapping and location assets to capture location content such as road networks, buildings, parks and traffic patterns.

Q: What kinds of information can be plotted on a map?

At HHS, many programs work with groups across the country in many different capacities.  Does your office have a set of information that contains location information? Examples might include: grants, videos, pictures, service centers, office locations, etc. that contain any sort of location information, such as zip code, address, GPS location, state, district, region, latitude/longitude, etc.

Q: Are there any examples in HHS of the HERE Platform Enterprise implementation?

You may check a few available implementations that are publicly available in production:

Q: Why should my office use the enterprise HERE Platform maps license instead of the free version of Google maps?

A free version of Google maps comes with significant limitations that impact map resolution, limited number of geocoding, directions and elevation requests. It has no analytics and no technical support if needed.

HERE Platform for Enterprise provides complete control over the user interface for basic and advanced functionality, allowing unlimited views and geocoding transactions. HERE Platform for Enterprise allows Intranet application support within the enterprise. You will also get an enterprise level technical support from NOKIA and analytics reports related to your map implementation.

Q: Are the maps accessible to people with disabilities?

No, HERE maps are not accessible to people with disabilities.  You will have to provide the content for each location point in an alternative format for people using assistive technology.  This can be achieved by making a static html page with the data available, or an accessible PDF version of the data.

Q: Can my site visitor use my map on a mobile device?

Yes, HERE Platform has been developed to provide mapping services to mobile devices, and is suitable for browser applications targeted at both the desktop and devices that include a web browser with a full JavaScript implementation. HERE Platform API could be used to create mapping applications for iPhone, Windows, Android.

Q: How do I get the information on the map?

You will need to convert your information into XML, CSV, or KML.

Q: What is an API and what kind of APIs are available in the HERE Platform for Enterprise?

API is an application programming interface that specifies how some software components should interact with each other. HERE Platform for Enterprise provides JavaScript APIs and REST APIs.

The HERE Maps API for JavaScript is a set of programming interfaces that enable developers to build Web applications with feature rich, interactive HERE Maps at their center. The API consists of libraries of classes and methods with which to implement the functionality of an interactive application.

HERE REST APIs provide a flexible and fast access to variety of map data and functionalities. Developers can use HERE Rest APIs to perform tasks ranging from batch geocode requests, advanced traffic incident reports to creating an isoline route.

Q: How difficult is it to transition from other mapping solution to HERE Platform?

Some coding will be needed, but it is relatively an insignificant effort for the developers. More information can be found here - http://developer.nokia.com/community/wiki/Converting_Google_Maps_for_JavaScript_to_HERE_Maps

Q: How do I request HERE Platform License?

You will need email Olexiy (Alex) Karakcheyev and you will receive  a unique application ID and Application Code that you would need to use in your application.

Do not share this information, and do not put it in any publicly accessible code.
