Guidance for FAQ regarding 820 Transaction and Processing

Question: The 820 Companion Guide for the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) states if a payment is an initial payment, the 2300/REF field will contain the value 'PAYMENTTRANSACTIONID.' Will the FF-SHOP send this data element on subsequent 820 transactions when payments are remitted to FF-SHOP issuers?

Answer: The FF-SHOP will send the Payment Transaction ID in initial and subsequent 820 transactions. The FF-SHOP will include the Payment Transaction ID in all 834 and Group XML transactions sent to Federally-facilitated Small Business Health Options Program (FF-SHOP) issuers.
