Risk Adjustment (RA) FAQ

Guidance for FAQ regarding Risk Adjustment Operations and Payments

Final

Issued by: Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)

Issue Date: July 25, 2019

Program Area: Risk Adjustment (RA)

Question: When will I be invoiced for my 2017 benefit year default data validation charge(s) under the Health and Human Services Risk Adjustment Validation (HHS-RADV) program?

Answer: In the HHS Notice of Benefit and Payment Parameters for 2020 (84 FR 17454) (April 25, 2019), CMS updated the timeline for publication, collection, and distribution of default data validation charges under the HHS-RADV program. Similar to 2017 benefit year HHS-RADV adjustments, CMS will delay the collection and distribution of 2017 benefit year default data validation charges and payment allocations until the 2021 calendar year. We will release future guidance when a more exact date in 2021 is known.
