Pub 100-20 One-Time Notification Transmittal Sheet: Stage 1 Use and Editing of National Provider Identifier Numbers Received in Electronic Data Interchange Transactions, via Direct Data Entry Screens, or on Paper Claim Forms

Guidance that rescinds Transmittal 180 dated September 23, 2005, and replaces it with Transmittal 204 dated February 1, 2006, concerning those requirements applicable to Stage 1 of carrier, DMERC, Fiscal Intermediary, and shared system maintainer implementation of the National Provider Identifier (NPI). The replacement permits posting the information to the internet and sharing, removes references to “confidentiality,” adds a requirement for a Medlearn article, and corrects the NUCC date for full use of the revised CMS-1500 paper claim form. All other material remains the same.
