MLN Matters Article (Revised) SE22001: Mental Health Visits via Telecommunications for Rural Health Clinics & Federally Qualified Health Centers

This revised SE Article comprises Subregulatory Guidance for regulatory changes for mental health visits in Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and how to bill for mental health visits done via telecommunications; and its content is based on publically available content within at https://www.cms.gov/medicaremedicare-fee-service-paymentphysicianfeeschedpfs-federal-regulation-notices/cms-1751-f. CMS policy or operation subject matter experts also reviewed/cleared this product. This SE Article educates RHCs and FQHCs on mental health visits using interactive, real-time telecommunications technology, coding requirements and in-person mental health visit requirements.

• For RHCs and FQHCs, we won’t require in-person visits until January 1, 2025
