Conferences

The Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) sponsors a series of workshops on responsibilities of researchers, Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), and institutional officials for the protection of human subjects in research. The Conferences are open to everyone with an interest in research involving human subjects. The meetings should be of special interest to those persons currently serving or about to begin serving as a member of an IRB. Issues discussed at these Conferences are relevant to all other Public Health Service agencies.

OHRP Research Community Forum: Moving Beyond the Basics of Informed Consent – Philadelphia, PA – October 23rd and 24th, 2014 

The Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) is co-sponsoring a Research Community Forum (RCF) with local institutions in Philadelphia, PA on Thursday and Friday, October 23rd and 24th 2014 entitled Moving Beyond the Basics of Informed Consent.”

Changes in the research environment, technological advances, and a greater understanding of related ethical concerns have made the issue of informed consent in research increasingly complex. This RCF will examine consent related challenges faced by IRBs, investigators, and other members of the research community.  The conference will foster thought provoking topics and stimulating discussions, and provide creative solutions to these challenges. 

This dynamic two-day event will be co-hosted by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, Temple University, Thomas Jefferson University, and the Wills Eye Hospital.

The conference will be held at the Sheraton Philadelphia Society Hill Hotel at 1 Dock St., Philadelphia, PA 19106 in the Old City section of Philadelphia.

Denver Welcomes 2015 OHRP Research Community Forum

In cooperation with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), Catholic Health Initiatives Institute for Research and Innovation and the University of Colorado, Denver will be co-hosting the March 2015 OHRP Research Community Forum in Denver, Colorado.  The event title is “Next Era Strategies to Elevate Human Research Protection” and the forum tracks will include HRPP/IRB Fundamentals, HRPP Efficiencies and Social Media in Research. Additionally, representatives of OHRP will be onsite to answer questions and provide news and policy updates.

Researchers, research coordinators, Institutional Review Board (IRB) members and staff, institutional officials, other public health service agencies, emerging bioscience companies entering human research and anyone with an interest in research involving human subjects should consider attending this informative and interesting one-day conference.
