Question: Under What circumstances is a 999 Acknowledgement returned?

Answer: Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) expects to receive a TA1 Acknowledgement for every outbound Interchange in which a (final) summary HIX 820 transaction set is sent. CMS expects to receive a 999 Acknowledgement for every functional group in every outbound final (summary) HIX 820 file sent.
