Study of Physician-owned Specialty Hospitals Required in Section 507(c)(2) of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003

Guidance for study performed by HHS asked to: study referral patterns of specialty hospital owners; compare the quality of care and patient satisfaction with such care received in these hospitals with local full-service community hospitals; and to assess the differences in uncompensated care between specialty hospitals and local full-service community hospitals, and the relative value of any tax exemption available to community hospitals.
