Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) FAQ

Guidance for FAQ regarding Issuer Participation Requirements and Other

Program Area: Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP)

Question: Is there a policy limit to the number of children on a SHOP plan? How should the Business rules template field "number of children allowed under a contract-only SHOP" be completed?

Answer: There is no limit on number of children covered in a SHOP. The selection specifically states 1, 2, or 3-or-more. Limiting it to a maximum of 3 (or more) children is strictly for purposes of pricing the family rate. It does not mean there is a limit on the number of children that could be on a given policy.
