Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) FAQ
Guidance for FAQ regarding Employer/Employee Interaction and Payment
Program Area: Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP)
Question: When scheduling a payment, can an employer select a payment date that is past the premium due date?
Answer: If an employer group does not make a payment on time, the group will enter a 31-day grace period. The Federally-facilitated Small Business Health Options Program (FF-SHOP) will send a termination transaction to issuers after the 31-day grace period has elapsed. If a qualified employer is terminated due to lack of premium payment, but within 30 days following the termination the qualified employer requests reinstatement, pays all premiums owed including any prior premiums owed for coverage during the grace period, and pays the premium for the next month's coverage, the FF-SHOP must reinstate the qualified employer in the previous coverage.
