Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) FAQ

Guidance for FAQ regarding Employer/Employee Interaction and Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs)

Program Area: Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP)

Question: If an enrollee accidentally chose the wrong plan and needs to change to the correct plan with the same effective date as the original plan, would this change be a cancellation and addition?

Answer: If the employee enrollment period is still open, an employee may change his or plan selection. After the employer has submitted the final group enrollment, the only way to change a plan is for the employee to qualify for a special enrollment period.
