Advance Care Planning and AI/AN Populations

Wednesday, May 27

Compared with other populations, American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people are less likely to complete an advance care plan or use the Medicare hospice benefit and are more likely to experience hospitalization at the end of life. Advance care planning is an essential process that helps adults ensure their healthcare reflects their values, beliefs, cultural context, and personal preferences. It can also play an important role in reducing disparities in end-of-life care. This presentation will introduce strategies for culturally tailoring advance care planning tools and for engaging in respectful, cross-cultural conversations about end-of-life preferences.
