ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee Meetings
Guidance for ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee (CandM), a Federal interdepartmental committee comprised of representatives from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS).
The ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance (C&M) Committee is a Federal interdepartmental committee comprised of representatives from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The Committee is responsible for approving coding changes, developing errata, addenda and other modifications.
Coordination and Maintenance Committee
The Committee provides a public forum to review, consider, and provide feedback on requests for proposed changes to ICD-10 bi-annually. The CDC/NCHS has the lead on ICD-10-CM diagnosis code issues. CMS has the lead on ICD-10-PCS procedure code issues. A tentative list of the topics under consideration is posted approximately one month in advance of the scheduled ICD-10 C&M Committee Update.
Materials
- Procedure code materials can be found under the ICD-10 C and M Procedure Code Materials link to the left hand side of this page where they are listed by date. These materials include the Agenda, Slides, Recordings, and any other files (e.g., Question and Answer document) if developed.
- Diagnosis code materials can be found on the CDC/NCHS web page shown below in the Related Links section.
ICD-10-PCS Procedure Code Requests
Proposed procedure code changes will be considered for an April 1 or an October 1 implementation date. As discussed in the FY 2022 IPPS/LTCH PPS final rule (86 FR 44950 through 44956), we adopted an April 1 implementation date, in addition to the annual October 1 update, beginning with April 1, 2022, to allow flexibility in the ICD–10 code update process. With this April 1 update, CMS uses the same process for consideration of all requests for an April 1 implementation date, including for purposes of the new technology add-on payment process (that is, the prior process for consideration of an April 1 implementation date only if a strong and convincing case was made by the requestor no longer applies).
Comments, questions, and recommendations in response to the proposed procedure code changes submitted by e-mail before the end of the public comment period will be considered. The Timeline included in the Agenda packet for proposals considered during the most recent Committee Update will include the deadline for public comments, the scheduled dates for proposals to be considered during the next Committee Update and e-mail address(es) to send comments. Public comments for procedure code proposals should be directed to the CMS mailbox at ICDProcedureCodeRequest@cms.hhs.gov.
No final decisions on proposed code updates are made before the end of the public comment period. Final decisions on code updates are made through a clearance process within the Department of Health and Human Services.
