Distributed Data Collection (DDC) for RA Including HCRP/EDGE Server FAQ
Guidance for FAQ regarding Edge Server Operations and Technical - Security and Integrity
Program Area: Distributed Data Collection (DDC) for RA Including HCRP/EDGE Server
Question: Does the EDGE instance need to be placed in the demilitarized zone (DMZ)?
Answer: Under the original EDGE server design from 2012, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed that issuers should submit servers in the DMZ. However, this is no longer the case with the updated EDGE server specifications. Issuers should secure the EDGE server application as they would any other application in the network (CMS recommends issuers do not place the EDGE application in the DMZ).
