File Conversions Related to the Spanish Translation of the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Descriptions
The purpose of this Change Request (CR) is to provide direction for the contractors to perform any necessary file conversions related to the Spanish translation of the HCPCS descriptions provided by First Coast Service Options (First Coast) on a quarterly basis. This recurring update notification applies to chapter 21, section 20. First Coast is providing these updates to the contractors because they are the entity that translates the HCPCS descriptions into Spanish for CMS. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act and their respective implementing regulations require CMS to make this content available in other languages to people enrolled in Medicare (and other health programs) who need it to access program information and services.
