04/23/2024: CMS released the Rhode Island Medicare-Medicaid Plan Quality Withhold Analysis Results for Demonstration Year 6. More information is available below.

On July 30, 2015, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the state of Rhode Island will partner with CMS to test a new model for providing Medicare-Medicaid enrollees with a more coordinated, person-centered care experience.

Under the demonstration, called the Medicare-Medicaid Alignment Integrated Care Initiative Demonstration (ICI Demonstration), Rhode Island, and CMS will contract with a Medicare-Medicaid plan to coordinate the delivery of and be accountable for covered Medicare and Medicaid services for participating Medicare-Medicaid enrollees.

July 30, 2015 - CMS and Rhode Island sign MOU

April 15, 2016 - CMS, Rhode Island, and participating plan execute three-way contract, amended August 3, 2016

July 1, 2016 - Start of opt-in enrollment

October 1, 2016 - Start of passive enrollment

January 1, 2018 - CMS, RI, and participating plans execute three-way contract

March 1, 2020 - CMS, RI, and participating plans execute updated three-way contract

August 1, 2020 - CMS, RI, and participating plans execute updated three-way contract amendment

July 1, 2022 - CMS, RI, and participating plans execute updated three-way contract amendment

July 1, 2023 - CMS, RI, and participating plans execute updated three-way contract amendment
