Strategic Communications

Strategic communications help programs share successes with partners and the wider community, thereby engaging key stakeholders in their work. Effective messages are credible, clear, concise, connect with people, and communicate value. Increasingly, social and new media are important tools for strengthening connections with stakeholders and disseminating messages that resonate with the community.

Key Considerations

  • Strategic communication is an approach that touches all elements of internal and external communication. It should be underpinned by an articulated goal and mission statement and should permeate throughout the operations of the entire organization.
  • To develop effective messages, programs need to set goals and develop integrated plans that take into account their communication channels.
  • Marketing and outreach are essential elements of grantee success. Effective implementation of strategic communication principles facilitates increased community penetration, increased program attendance and a greater impact on targeted populations.
