Program Planning & Implementation

A smoothly operating program that fits the needs of its target population is positioned to achieve its desired outcomes and address challenges in its path. Effectively planning and implementing a program takes time and commitment.

Key Considerations

  • Effective program implementation begins with strong program planning that includes conducting needs assessments and building staff and program capacity.
  • Remember the six P’s: Prior Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. Knowing the populations served, as well as the program’s capacity to serve them, can help programs avoid wasting resources.
  • Develop your implementation approach and monitoring strategy before program services begin. A plan can also help align staff around common goals and guide decisions when challenges arise.
