Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health
Settings: Community Service Centers
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) will implement the Massachusetts Pregnant and Parenting Teen Initiative (MPPTI), enabling five community-based partners (CBPs) to serve expectant and parenting male and female adolescents ages 14-24 and their families. Programming includes a strengths-based case management model that seeks to increase life opportunities and enhance stability among young families. The MPPTI will prioritize work in Chelsea, Holyoke, Lawrence, New Bedford, and Springfield; each of these communities has a teen birth rate that is three to four times higher than the state rate. Program participants will receive services tailored to their individual needs, including health and social service assessments, care coordination, counseling, health education, referrals, and services for infants and children. Throughout the grant period, MDPH will provide technical assistance and support to CBPs to enhance their ability to provide services to young people with the greatest need.
