California Department of Public Health, Maternal, Child & Adolescent Health
Setting: Community Service Centers
The California Department of Public Health, Maternal, Child & Adolescent Health (CDPH/MCAH) will expand implementation of the case management program, the California Adolescent Family Life Program (AFLP) Positive Youth Development (PYD) Model, with expectant and parenting teens under age 19 in Orange County. In addition, CDPH/MCAH will fund up to four local experts to lead quality improvement projects and raise public awareness of services and resources. The PYD Model is a strengths-based case management program based on a resiliency framework, which affirms that all teenagers can make meaningful contributions to their lives, families, and communities. The PYD Model: encourages youth to be physically and emotionally healthy; focuses on healthy relationships, such as positive parenting and strengthening marriages; and connects teenagers with resources and services. The aim of the PYD Model is to improve the life course trajectory of expectant and parenting teens and their children by improving health, education, and social outcomes.
