Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education
Settings: High Schools, Community Service Centers
The Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education (DECE) will use data from a statewide needs assessment to expand an early childhood home visitation project that supports parental skill-building for expectant teens and parenting young adults and their families in Mobile and Montgomery counties. This project aims to improve educational, health, and social outcomes by refining, reinforcing, and expanding existing expectant and parenting young adult services. Emphasis will be placed on identifying and disseminating best practices and implementing evidence-based parenting supports. To provide linkages and referrals to services, DECE will partner with the Alabama Department of Public Health, the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health, and the Alabama Partnership for Children, and will fund two community service centers, Gift of Life and the Mobile County Health Department’s Teens Empowered through Education and Nurturing (TEEN) Center.
