Find Resources on Adolescent Tobacco Use
There are many free resources, tips and counseling services to help tobacco users quit.
- A national toll-free number, 1-800-QUIT-NOW, provides information to help adolescents (as well as adults) stop smoking.
- SmokeFree.gov from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has a number of different resources: A step-by-step quit smoking guide; LiveHelp, National Cancer Institute’s instant messaging service; as well as publications to download, print, or order.
- SmokeFreeTxt, also from NCI, is a free mobile service designed for teens and young adults and created to provide 24/7 encouragement, advice, and tips to help smokers stop smoking for good.

- Check out OAH’s full library of federal adolescent health resources on substance abuse,in general, and those specific to tobacco.
- BeTobaccoFree.gov is a comprehensive "one-stop-shop" for tobacco information from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
- The Real Cost, part of BeTobaccoFree.gov, provides adolescents with facts about tobacco and nicotine that are based on science. The goal of this multi-year media campaign is to reduce the number of teens who initiate smoking and become lifelong tobacco users.
- Information about school programs to reduce tobacco use is available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH).
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has resources on youth tobacco prevention.
- This is Our Watch, from the Food and Drug Administration, has resources to help retailers comply with tobacco regulations.
