As AA and NHPI populations have grown, it has become increasingly clear that the varied AA and NHPI populations differ in socioeconomic status, health status, educational attainment, labor force characteristics, and many others. This underscores the need for disaggregated AA and NHPI data—that is, data by individual AA and NHPI populations. Under the Office of Management and Budget’s 2024 revision to Statistical Policy Directive No. 15, federal data collection must now, by default, include greater disaggregation of data for AA and NHPI subgroups.
