Orthopedic surgeon David Teuscher, MD formerly of Beaumont, Texas has been appointed by the White House as Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Teuscher facilitates communication regarding HHS initiatives as they relate to state, local, and tribal governments. Region VI includes the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, as well as 68 Federally-recognized tribes and is headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Teuscher has served as President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the Texas Orthopaedic Association (TOA). He completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and earned his MD at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. Dr. Teuscher earned academic appointments at the University of Oklahoma and Baylor University while he served as an instructor at the U.S. Army Academy of Health Sciences for two years at Fort Sam Houston. After 13 years in the US Army including deployment in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Dr. Teuscher entered private practice in 1993, retiring from clinical practice of orthopaedic surgery and as past-president of the Beaumont Bone and Joint Institute in 2016 where he specialized in orthopaedic sports medicine.

Appointed by Governor Rick Perry, David served on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Texas Tax Reform Commission and the Texas Youth Commission. Dr. Teuscher and his wife now live in Bastrop County and have two grown sons living in Texas, including one who recently completed service in the U. S. Army.
