How do I check the availability of a second level (e.g., subject.gov) domain name/url?

Answer:

1. Go to http://www.dotgov.gov.

2. Click on the “Domain Availability” link.

3.    Click the “Agree” button (below the warning) to continue. 

4.    You will then need to click on the “Domain Availability” link again.

5.    Then enter the proposed domain name in the Lookup box and click on Go.

You may also find domain contact information in the database if the domain name exists.
