American Pharmaceutical Association Awards and Honors

The following is a list of Awards and Honors available through the APhA. For more detailed information regarding nomination forms, complete Award and Honor monograph descriptions, and criteria, refer to the Pharmacy Website at -------------------.

  1. REMINGTON HONOR MEDAL: Recognizes distinguished service on behalf of American Pharmacy.
  2. HUGO H. SCHAEFER AWARD: Recognizes outstanding voluntary contributions to society as well as to the profession of pharmacy and the APhA.
  3. HUBERT H. HUMPHREY AWARD: Recognizes APhA members who have made major contributions in government and/or legislative service.
  4. GOOD GOVERNMENT PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR AWARD: Recognizes a pharmacist who actively contributes to the community through his or her involvement in the political process.
  5. HONORARY MEMBERSHIP: Recognizes an individual whose activities and achievements have had a significant impact upon the public health, the profession, and its practitioners.
  6. HONORARY PRESIDENT: Recognizes an active member who has made significant contributions to the Association.
  7. GLORIA NIEMEYER FRANCKE LEADERSHIP MENTOR AWARD: Recognizes an APhA member whose efforts or activities have significantly contributed to promoting leadership in others.
  8. THE AMERICAN PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOCIATION FELLOWS: Recognizes a pharmacist for outstanding service to the profession through activities in APhA and in other organizations.
  9. DANIEL B. SMITH PRACTICE EXCELLENCE AWARD: Recognizes a pharmacy practitioner in any practice setting, who has distinguished himself/herself and the profession by outstanding performance.
  10. ACADEMY OF PHARMACY PRACTICE MANAGEMENT DISTINGISHED ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
    1. COMMUNITY AND AMBULATORY PRACTICE: Recognizes the achievements of individuals who have made significant/sustained contributions to community and ambulatory practice.
    2. CLINICAL/PHARMACOTHERAPEUTIC PRACTICE: Recognizes the achievements of individuals who have made significant/sustained contributions to clinical/pharmacotherapeutic practice.
    3. HOSPITAL AND INSTITUTIONAL PRACTICE: Recognizes the achievements of individuals who have made significant/sustained contributions to hospital and institutional practice.
    4. WILLIAM H. BRINER NUCLEAR PHARMACY PRACTICE: Recognizes achievements of individuals who have made significant/sustained contributions to nuclear pharmacy practice.
    5. SPECIALIZED PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES: Recognizes the achievements of individuals who have made significant/sustained contributions to specialized pharmaceutical services.
  11. R.A.B. DUNNING AWARD: Recognizes an exemplary contribution to the practice of pharmacy by a pharmaceutical manufacturer or provider of support products or services.
  12. ACADEMY OF PHARMACY PRACTICE AND MANAGEMENT MERIT AWARD: Recognizes pharmacy practitioners who have accomplished a single outstanding, distinctive achievement that has promoted or elevated the standard of practice.
  13. ACADEMY OF PHARMACY PRACTICE AND MANAGEMENT PRESENTATION MERIT AWARD: Recognizes members who submitted practice-focused papers to be presented during the APhA Annual Meeting.
  14. EBERT PRIZE: Recognizes the author for the best essay or written communication containing original investigation of a medicinal substance published in the APhA Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  15. BEST PUBLISHED PAPER AWARD FOR ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND ADMINSTRATIVE SCIENCES: Recognizes the best published paper describing original investigation in the areas of economic, social, or administrative sciences related to pharmacy.
  16. RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENT AWARD IN THE PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES: Recognizes the individual with accomplished, outstanding published research reports in the scientific professional literature.
  17. POSTGRADUATE BEST PAPER AWARD: Recognizes the author of the best-contributed paper presented at each APhA Annual Meeting by a postgraduate student.
  18. AMERICAN PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOCIATION KILMER PRIZE: Recognizes the undergraduate or graduate student's paper for reporting meritorious work in pharmacognosy or natural products.
  19. AMERICAN PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOCIATION STIMULATION OF RESEARCH AWARD: Recognizes the individual who has stimulated research in others as evidenced by his/her ability to motivate and inspire by performance or counsel.
