News Release HHS Awards New National Family Planning Training Center Cooperative Agreement 10/18/2007 The Office of Population Affairs (OPA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) today announced a cooperative agreement to develop and implement a National Family Planning Training Center (NTC) with total funding of $500,000. A nonprofit, Cicatelli Associates Inc. (CAI), located in New York City, is the recipient of this competitive grant award. CAI has extensive expertise in all aspects of developing, delivering, and evaluating training programs and conferences, and is also the Family Planning Regional Training and Technical Assistance Center in HHS Region II, which serves New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The NTC will assist in the planning, development, and coordination of training activities that will benefit personnel who carry out family planning service programs funded under the Title X Family Planning Program. The Title X program is a Federal grant program dedicated to supporting family planning services throughout the U.S., with priority for serving individuals from low-income families. The new NTC will serve a national network of family planning providers to ensure that Title X clients receive quality family planning services. To accomplish this, the new NTC plans to: • Coordinate and promote sharing of resources and current, evidence-based information among Title X-funded training entities; • Maximize the impact of Title X family planning training activities by periodically convening OPA Office of Family Planning staff, Title X-funded training entities, Title X service grantees, and other experts in the field; • Improve training on issues of broad impact and develop nationally-relevant training resources; and • Maximize existing public and private training resources that benefit Title Xfunded programs.
