Trauma Exposure

Adolescents that have been exposed to trauma are very vulnerable to the stress of the trauma. The impact of a traumatic event can depend on the adolescent’s response and potentially includes the following factors:¹

Developmental stage
Perception of the danger
Whether a victim or a witness
Relationship to the victim or perpetrator
Past experiences with trauma
Post trauma adversities faced
Availability of supportive and protective adults
