Trauma Exposure

Adolescents that have been exposed to trauma are very vulnerable to the stress of the trauma. The impact of a traumatic event can depend on the adolescent’s response and potentially includes the following factors:1

  • Developmental stage
  • Perception of the danger
  • Whether a victim or a witness
  • Relationship to the victim or perpetrator
  • Past experiences with trauma
  • Post trauma adversities faced
  • Availability of supportive and protective adults
