It is our hope that the adolescent brain development module will increase your understanding of adolescent behavior and clarify your expectations of adolescents in your program. This knowledge can give you a new perspective when providing services and education. Adolescent brain development research should not leave you scratching our heads thinking “So now what? How am I supposed to get through to her?” Instead, you can use this knowledge to see the adolescents you work with in a new way. Hopefully you will be able to better understand why they make some of the decisions they do and that traditional “adult” responses may not be effective for them.

Although most research in adolescent brain development is fairly recent, it does stress the importance of support and guidance from caring adults.
