Privacy and Security

From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Nicholas Garlow with HHS HealthBeat.

Using mobile devices, tablets and smart phones, to access health information is becoming more common. Problem is, the people using those tools are not security experts.

At HHS, the Office of National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has developed an educational initiative to help doctors, if they use mobile devices, keep your health info safe.

Kathryn Marchesini, with the Office of the National Coordinator, tells us what the mobile initiative stands for.

“Know the risk. Take the steps. Protect and secure health information.”

While the campaign is geared to health care providers, anyone can use the tools to protect health info.

“We’ve made basic, explanatory videos that talk to the common risk scenarios. They provide examples of steps that anyone can take to protect and secure information.”
