It’s Labelman!

From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I'm Ira Dreyfuss with HHS HealthBeat.

He carries a poster that looks like it came off a food can, and his super power is to hand out advice.

So, OK, Labelman won't dazzle you with daring. But unlike most superheroes, he really can do you some good.

Labelman lives on a Food and Drug Administration Web site called Make Your Calories Count. He helps educators and others teach how to use the Nutrition Facts panel on food packages, so people can make better choices about what to eat.

That's why he holds the Nutrition Facts panel.

Labelman is cool with that.

So is FDA's Barbara Schneeman, who says you can learn a lot from the site. For instance:

"It shows how to use the serving size and the calorie information to help you manage your calorie intake, particularly when you're trying to manage your body weight." (10 seconds)
