Laura M. Caliguiri
Laura Caliguiri is the Director in the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). She joined the Department in September, 2005 as Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs. She serves as a key advisor to the Department’s senior leadership on policy matters and their impact on state, local, and tribal governments. Laura previously served as the Senior Intergovernmental Affairs Officer in the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor.
Prior to joining the government, Laura worked in the government relations arena for almost ten years. During this time, she has worked for corporations, trade associations and coalitions developing her expertise in working with federal, state and local lawmakers and public policy groups.
She has worked within state and local public policy groups including the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the Council of State Governments (CSG) and the National Governors Association (NGA) and served on many committees and taskforces in the organizations.
Laura served for the last decade on the board of the Washington Areas State Relations Group (WASRG), is a member of Women in Government Relations (WGR) and served as their past-chair of the State Affairs Task Force and the State Government Affairs Council (SGAC) Assembly on Federal Issues (AFI) Vice-Chair to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).
She is a graduate from The College of Wooster with a B.A. in Philosophy, served as a medical ethics intern at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and holds a Professional designation from the Academy for Healthcare Management. Laura is also an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.
