Getting In Tune For My Future: My #GetCovered Story

Singing opera is my passion. And when I had to choose between a full-time desk job with health insurance benefits or devoting myself to music, I chose music.

I was able to make that decision because I knew I could get health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace in January.

I have to admit it was scary when I was uninsured. It was like a dark cloud over my head, and I was always worried that something was going to happen to me. A serious accident or illness could have been financially devastating.

After the Marketplace opened, I found in-person help with a local navigator and then logged onto HealthCare.gov. I found more options there than I imagined would be available. I chose a silver plan that included chiropractic care, which is very important to me. As a singer I like having the option of going to a chiropractor I trust because my body is such a big part of my career.

With a reduced premium, I’m paying only $120 a month, with a deductible of $250. It is absolutely affordable for me.

I urge everyone to check out their options and sign up for a plan through HealthCare.gov, or in Spanish at CuidadoDeSalud.gov. You can also get help by phone 24/7 at 1-800-318-2596 in English or Spanish or any one of 150 languages. And if you want to find in-person help in your community, click on localhelp.healthcare.gov and punch in your zip code.

But don’t delay! Sign up today. You have only until March 31st to enroll in a Marketplace plan for coverage this year; otherwise you won’t be able to get covered until 2015.

I’m so glad I got covered – for peace of mind, financial security, and my future.

Now I can teach music and have enough time to practice and prepare for auditions so that I can make my dream of performing a reality.
