Over the past several months, more than a million people have signed up for coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. In some cases, people are saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year. In other cases, people are getting covered for the first time. And starting in the New Year, being denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition will be a thing of the past.
Here are some of the things people have said about signing up:
- “My family and I will be saving about $120 a month with much better coverage, plus dental!” – Jacob, Arkansas
- “I’m paying $76 a month in 2014 for full health coverage and dental. It came down to pure math, pure dollars and cents.” – Molly, Florida
- “I have paid the first month's premium, so I am good to go! I also signed up for dental for the first time because it was so easy.” – Mick, Florida
- “Until something was done, I wasn’t going to get coverage unless I completely changed my career. I wouldn’t be able to do the work I really enjoy, so I really was excited.” – Diane, Michigan
For these Americans, and millions like them, health coverage means peace of mind and security. It means they can pursue their passions without worry, because you never know what can happen. Without health coverage, you’re just one accident away from financial woes.
Affordable coverage through the Marketplace really does mean a new day for millions of Americans, and it’s why we encourage you to visit HealthCare.gov and explore your options.
While you have until March 31, 2014 to enroll in coverage, today marks the last Saturday before December 23—the last day to sign up for coverage that begins January 1, 2014. To mark the occasion, volunteers across America are getting out in their communities and spreading the word about the Affordable Care Act.
To everyone participating today: thank you.
