Because You’re Not Invincible…

“I feel like the Marketplace will help me achieve my goals. It’ll just be a load off my shoulders.”
Malik is a 24 year-old bartender and server from Pennsylvania. Work keeps him on his feet for hours at a time, often requiring him to carry heavy trays. He was uninsured and on a tight budget when he hurt his foot, forcing him to make a difficult choice—work through the pain or miss out on a paycheck.
Awhile back Malik told us:
“I hurt my foot pretty bad and I personally thought it was a fracture. I can’t afford to not go to work and not walk on it so I’ve just kind of struggled through it.
If I did have insurance, I would have gone to make sure that it wasn’t worse than I assumed it was.
Without insurance, a serious accident would pretty much turn my life upside down. It would probably set me back for life.”
For years, millions of hard working Americans like Malik have been denied the security and peace of mind that comes with having health insurance. But thanks to the health care law, all of that is changing.
Yesterday Malik was one of the first Americans to shop for insurance on the new Health Insurance Marketplace—a one-stop shop for you to compare and purchase private health insurance plans that fit your needs and your budget. We caught up with him to ask him what he thought:
“The Marketplace is just what I expected. It’s easy to use, and made it easy for me to look at different plans and see what they have to offer. I’m taking the time to explore my options, but I’m really excited the Marketplace is there.”
