Program Title | Travelers’ Health Research Centers - Evaluation of Measures to Protect the Health of International Travelers |
Agency/Sub-Agency | CDC\CCID\NCPDCID\DGMQ\OD |
Description | The purpose of this RFA is to establish a group of travel medicine to focus on research to promote the health of the traveler prior to, during and upon return from international travel. We believe travel medicine clinics represent an opportunity for the physician to educate the patient about precautions to reduce risk of illness and injury during travel, including vaccinations, as well as drug prophylaxis to prevent and treat diseases such as malaria. We also believe that the encounter with a travel medicine clinician represents a unique opportunity to educate adults about routine adult immunization, since many adults do not visit their general practitioner unless they are ill, during which the focus of the encounter is on treating the illness and not on the benefits of immunization. |
