Agency/Sub-Agency

Description

The purpose of this project is to reduce alcohol-exposed pregnancies in high-risk childbearing-aged women (18-44 years) using the Project CHOICES (Changing High-Risk AlcOhol Use and Increasing Contraception Effectiveness Study) intervention model.  Potential applicants will be asked to identify  a population of women in the preconception period who are at increased risk for an alcohol-exposed  pregnancy and who receive ambulatory women’s healthcare at a designated public or private managed  care facility. The facility should be one that employs electronic medical records systems for recording and tracking patient visits and services.  Applicants will be required to utilize the Project CHOICES intervention in identifying and intervening with high-risk women in this clinical setting.  Adaptations to the CHOICES intervention may be made by the applicant based on justifiable need. Such adaptations may include fewer than 4 counseling sessions and/or shortened sessions.  Providers of the intervention must be designated by the applicant along with assurance that these individuals possess the interviewing and counseling skills necessary for delivering the intervention.  The applicant should provide a plan for integrating the screening, intervention and follow-up of intervention participants into the existing electronic medical records system.
