Description | CDC has provided public health support to national non-governmental organizations since FY 05. The purpose of the program is to strengthen the nation's capacity to carry out public health activities in the area of asthma education. Through this effort, CDC is funding 3 nationally recognized asthma education organizations to implement asthma health education enhancement programs to address the “Healthy People 2010" focus areas of Environmental Health and Respiratory Diseases. The objective of this project is to provide appropriate resources for health education of patients and others impacted by asthma. The three funded NGO sites will meet the following objectives: - Disseminate educational information for families impacted by asthma,
- help families learn to cope with challenges they face with a child with asthma, and
- serve as a resource for families impacted by asthma.
The organizations (American Lung Association, Allergy, & Asthma Network/Mothers of Asthmatics, Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America) have developed programs to increase understanding of the relationship between environmental exposures and health effects by implementing public health activities that meet the objectives. |
