Federal Health Architecture (FHA)
Overview - Health IT EnvironmentONC, which manages FHA, combines input from public and private sector organizations in the healthcare and technology industries to lead national health IT efforts. The American Health Information Community (AHIC, "The Community") represents input from the Health Care Industry (public and private sector leaders) to advance efforts for electronic health records (EHRs) and adoption of health IT. The Community has identified four specific areas that would achieve tangible and specific value to the healthcare consumer that can be realized within a short timeframe. Those areas, also called "Breakthroughs", are Biosurveillance, Consumer Empowerment, Chronic Care and EHRs. The technology industry is contributing to infrastructure efforts, which include: standards harmonization, certification, nationwide network, privacy and security issues, and health IT adoption. This infrastructure will enable the seamless and secure portability of health information to the point of care. ONC - together with the Health IT Policy Council, FHA and The Community - is the convening organization of health IT efforts, which will lead to an industry transformation, and ultimately supports the President's health IT plan promoting health IT to improve efficiency, improve the quality of care and provide better information for patients and physicians. |
