Mobile applications allow us to make convenient financial transactions. Through this technology, you can pay your credit card bill through an app or transfer money between bank accounts.

Embracing this new functionality, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) launched two mobile apps. The apps help bring greater transparency to financial interactions between doctors and the health care industry.

New Open Payments Apps available for download

These free mobile apps allow to the medical community to track financial interactions required by the Open Payments program (Physician Payments Sunshine Act). Created by a provision of the Affordable Care Act, Open Payments creates greater transparency about the financial transactions between:

  • Doctors
  • Teaching hospitals
  • Drug and device manufacturers
  • Other health care businesses

CMS made these apps available to promote accurate reporting of required information. The data collected will be available to the public and published annually on the Open Payments website.

These mobile applications, one each for physicians and health care industry users, merge the proven and efficient app format with real-time 24-hour tracking technology. The apps offer on-the-go convenience for users to track financial data. Both apps are compatible with the iOS (Apple™) and Android platforms; they are available free through the iOS Apple™ Store and Google Play™ Store.

Are the payments just searchable on a CMS website or can the entire database be downloaded for use in external apps?
