Meeting

The National Biodefense Science Board (NBSB) held its inaugural meeting on December 17-18, 2008. Secretary Leavitt welcomed the members of the Board. The Board members were briefed on the Department of Health and Human Services activities related to preventing, preparing for, and responding to adverse health effects of public health emergencies resulting from chemical, biological, nuclear, and radiological events, whether naturally occurring, accidental, or deliberate. At the conclusion of the meeting the Board established four working groups (Pandemic Influenza Working Group, Disaster Medicine Working Group, Markets and Sustainability Working Group, and the U.S. Medical Countermeasure Research and Development Processes for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Agents Working Group).
