Acquisition of Therapeutic Products for Treatment of Inhalational Anthrax Disease under RFP-2004-N-01385On September 23, 2005 two contracts were awarded for the purchase of 10 grams of Anthrax Therapeutics for testing. The awards were given to Human Genome Sciences in the amount of $1,797,372 and the Cangene Corporation in the amount of $422,880. These awards did not utilize the Special Reserve Fund. Each of these contracts include options for the acquisition of 10,000 to 100,000 treatment doses of product, and, if executed, would utilize the Special Reserve Fund as authorized by the Project BioShield Act of 2004. On June 19, 2006, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that it had modified its existing contract with Human Genome Sciences to include the the purchase of 20,000 treatment courses of ABthrax, an anthrax therapeutic treatment for a total of $165,205,217. (Press Release) On July 28, 2006, the HHS announced that it will purchase 10,000 therapeutic courses of treatment of Anthrax Immune Globulin (AIG) through a modification of an existing contract with Cangene Corporation of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada for a total of $143,833,719.
