Chief of Staff
Andrea Palm began her tenure as Chief of Staff in May 2013. Prior to that, Andrea served as Counselor to the Secretary for Science and Public Health. In this role, she provided advice to the HHS Secretary on a range of health care matters and developed and led Administration initiatives related to programs administered by the Food and Drug Administration, the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Office of Global Affairs, and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response.
During the Obama Administration, Andrea has served as Acting Assistant Secretary for Legislation at HHS, and spent one year with the White House Domestic Policy Council as a Senior Advisor for Health. Prior to joining the Administration, Andrea was the Senior Health Policy Advisor to former Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Before joining Senator Clinton's staff, Andrea served as the Legislative Director to the late Congressmen Robert T. Matsui of Sacramento, CA. She oversaw Representative Matsui's legislative agenda and handled his Ways and Means committee work, including health care and Social Security. She has also done a variety of low-income policy and direct service work for both non-profits and local government.
Andrea grew up in upstate New York and received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She has a Masters in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, and currently resides in Washington DC.
